Velipekka Nummikoski will step down as deputy CEO of Finland’s state gambling operator Veikkaus on August 31, 2026. His departure concludes a 14-year tenure that began in 2012.
Nummikoski initially joined the organization as CEO of the Slot Machine Association (RAY). He assumed the deputy CEO position in 2017. His exit follows the May appointment of Ilkka Kosola as chief financial officer. The departure also precedes the rollout of a new multi-licensing regulatory framework scheduled for July 2027.
Leadership Transition and Regulatory Changes
Nummikoski stated that his tenure covered the industry’s digital transition and the corporate merger. He noted that the upcoming regulatory changes mark a new operational phase and confirmed his move to other professional opportunities. CEO Olli Sarekoski recognized Nummikoski’s contributions across multiple management roles.Earlier this year, Veikkaus adjusted safer gaming limits across age categories to strengthen harm prevention measures. These updates were announced in June alongside broader operational reviews. The company released the leadership announcement on August 12, 2026.
