Ultrarunner Steve Sammut Nurminen completed a 24-hour run at the university track in Msida on December 2 and 3 to raise funds for Soup Kitchen OFM. The event, titled Move For Meals, gathered volunteers to support the local charity.
Over the two-day period, participants completed 7,528 laps, covering a total distance of 3,011 km. The collective effort raised €6,940 toward a €12,000 goal, sufficient to provide a month's worth of meals. Nurminen personally ran 394 laps, equivalent to four marathons, contributing the value of 160 meals to the total.
Event Activities and Partnerships
The Move For Meals event featured various fitness activities alongside the endurance challenge. Programs included a one-mile race for children, pilates, yoga, mobility classes, and HYROX training sessions. DJs provided music throughout the event, and refreshments were available at the track.
Nurminen noted that the public turnout exceeded his expectations and helped maintain his motivation.
The initiative was organized in partnership with BRND WGN and Garnish, with the latter supplying the meals. iGEN served as a sponsor, with employee Enrico Bradamante participating in a specific challenge involving four laps of the track and consuming a beer before each segment. Nurminen prepared for the 24-hour run by training four hours daily for one week.
This is not the first fundraising run for the athlete. Earlier this year, Nurminen completed a 365 km run in Sicily, raising over €6,000 for the same cause. Soup Kitchen OFM distributes meals three times weekly and offers legal and psychological assistance.
Last year, the organization served 120,000 meals to more than 30,000 individuals.
