UK Gambling Commission Opens Industry Call to Ease Regulatory Burdens

The UK Gambling Commission has launched an open call for operators and suppliers to submit proposals aimed at simplifying compliance procedures. The initiative, detailed in a Friday announcement, will accept submissions until 25 September 2026, with initial discussions scheduled for the Operators Engagement Forum on 2 July 2026.

The review covers the Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice, technical standards, statements of principles, and overlapping regulatory requirements. The regulator is requesting practical suggestions to streamline reporting, clarify existing rules, and update outdated processes. Proposals must align with the licensing objectives set out in the Gambling Act 2005 while improving communication between the commission and industry stakeholders.

Submission Guidelines and Exclusions

Stakeholders must complete a standardised form outlining the current regulatory position and proposed evaluation methods. The exercise operates outside formal consultation procedures, with priority given to realistic measures that fit within the commission’s resource capacity. Suggestions falling outside the regulator’s remit will be redirected to relevant authorities.

The review follows the commission’s 2026-27 Business Plan, announced in April, which outlined commitments to digitise licensing services and reduce data reporting where possible. Proposals tied to ongoing reviews or recent policy evaluations will not be considered. This exclusion covers broader matters from the Gambling Act Review and the subsequent white paper.

Financial Risk Assessments are also expected to be excluded, following a pilot trial conducted last year and pending final implementation decisions.
