Rosfinmonitoring has included Telegram founder Pavel Durov in the official list of individuals involved in terrorism and extremism. This decision mandates Russian banks to freeze his domestic accounts immediately.
Regulatory Actions and Account Freezes
The Federal Security Service (FSBI) recently announced that Durov faces charges for facilitating terrorist activities. Authorities allege that the Telegram administration failed to remove specific channels and bots utilized for unlawful operations. Consequently, the agency has placed Durov under international wanted status.
Financial institutions are now required to block Durov’s Russian assets. Any monetary transfers directed to him may be classified as financing terrorism. Meanwhile, Roskomnadzor confirmed that Telegram continues to violate local legislation, ensuring that existing restrictions on the messenger remain in effect.
Earlier reports indicated that Durov faced formal accusations regarding his role in the company's compliance. Speculation also suggested that Telegram could be officially recognized as a terrorist resource within the Russian Federation.
