Churchill Downs has named Rich Sukhu vice president and general manager of the upcoming Rockingham Grand Casino in Salem, New Hampshire. He will assume the position on August 3 to oversee operations at the new property and Chaser’s Poker Room.
Sukhu will report directly to Michael Meagher, senior vice president of gaming operations. His primary responsibility involves preparing the facility for its launch and managing daily activities across both venues. The Rockingham Grand Casino is currently under development on the site of the former Casino Salem.
Leadership Background and Team Structure
Sukhu brings over 24 years of industry experience to the role, including nearly two decades with Churchill Downs Incorporated. He originally joined Calder Casino in 2009 as director of surveillance. Over the years, he advanced through senior director of security and surveillance, senior director of operations, and assistant general manager before becoming president and general manager in 2019.
Meagher stated that Sukhu's history of opening new properties and building teams makes him suitable for the position. Tommy Leccese will remain in a leadership capacity for the New Hampshire properties, reporting to Sukhu. Sukhu noted that he is focused on establishing a culture that delivers consistent service to staff and guests.
The appointment coincides with the final development phase of the Salem location before its scheduled opening.
